One good ring deserves another. A week after Muslim youth organized a “Ring of Peace” around Oslo’s only functioning synagogue, members of the local community stood in a “Solidarity Ring” at an Oslo mosque to combat xenophobic and Islamophobic stereotypes. This photo essay for New Internationalist combines both events. I also covered the mosque event for Huffington Post, and was pleased to share the front page of their religion section with my former Sojourners boss, Jim Wallis. Good company all around. Another random connection: The week after the mosque event, I recognized someone from one of my photos while attending the American Lutheran Congregation. He’s the guy on crutches toward the left in the photo below, a Christian of Ethiopian descent who’s lived in several other countries before landing in Oslo. It’s a small world after all.
